The Grand annual festival, called Inthira Vizha or Indra Vizha, of the Valvettithurai Sri Muthumariyamman Temple was held on the full moon day of this month, with large numbers of crowd participating.
Under the leadership of the Nediyakadu Indra vizha welcome committee and with strong community support of loacl and diaspora, the festival was organized in a grand and well-coordinated manner.
A stretch of approximately one and a half kilometers along the Point Pedro – KKS road, from Orani to Orikadu, was adorned with traditional decorations including ornamental cut-outs, banana trees, and colorful lighting arrangements.
Various cultural events such as music, devotional singing (Bajans), dance performances, musical events, and other special attractions took place, entertaining the large gathering of public witnessed, from all over Jaffna. The events commenced in the evening of the full moon day and continued until the early hours of the following morning, today.
The grand festival was conducted in such a grand manner, successfully continues to reviving its past glory, cultural and religious significance of this tiny coastal town of Valvettithurai.
