Even though congested Valvettithurai has got many temples, Valvettithurai Sri Muthumariyamman kovil always attracts more devotes, including those displaced. The great Índra Vizha’ which used to take on place on the last day of the annual festival, is considered as one of the notable event in the Jaffna Peninsula.
The history shown on the entrance of the temple, i.e underneath of the roof, indicates that the Muthumariyamman had come from Kodiyakarai, the southern tip of Tamil nadu, India. Valvettithurai Sri Muthumariyamman temple is located along the Point Pedro – KKS road, about 500 meter west of VVT junction.
